SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS DURING 2009/2010 FINANCIAL YEAR

Behaviour Issues in CBD

We worked closely with Council and other organisations to solve the problem.  The installation of cameras was a major factor in achieving success. As members of the Latrobe City CBD safety committee, we continue to represent the Community.

Gippsland Band Concert in Rose Garden

For the last two years Advance Morwell has co-operated with the Morwell Brass Band to stage a combined Bands of Gippsland Concert in the Rose Garden

Legacy Place

Our project for a LEGACY PLACE sign, information on Legacy, and the role in peacetime and in two World Wars of its founder, Sir Stanley Savige, was completed in 2011.  Legacy Place is now a major Morwell heritage landmark.

Further Development of the Town Common.

Advance Morwell plays a major role on the committee of management.  This year the major achievement was the completion of the  Picnic Shelter by the Rotary Club of Morwell, and installation of seating.  Advance Morwell is urging Council to allocate funding to  complete all elements of the 4-stage plan for the Common, which includes extra parking areas, extension of the barbecue shelter, tree planting and landscaping, additional seating, an outdoor stage, and an all abilities playground.

Beautification of Morwell.

Wishing to build on the rose theme we have provided planter boxes of roses in George and Tarwin Streets.  A further grant has been obtained from Latrobe City for further planter boxes to be placed in Commercial Road.

In addition we plan to erect a banner in Church Street celebrating the international flavour of that area.

Business Promotion.

Thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government and the Latrobe City Council Advance Morwell has produced "Shopping in and Around the Morwell CBD"  All CBD businesses are listed and have been given a copy of the booklet.

Reintroduction of Christmas Carols in Morwell.

Working together with the Latrobe City Brass Band and other music groups, we now stage a Christmas Carols event in conjunction with St.Mary's Church

Northwest Housing Development Project.

Advance Morwell played a leading role in successfully opposing TRUEnergy’s buffer zone claim that would have greatly reduced the number of available housing blocks in this proposed development.  A major new housing development is now under way

  Hard Waste Collection Service.

We strongly believe that the Hard Waste collection service is needed, and continue to lobby Council to introduce a service which meets the needs of residents.

  Cooperation with Council

As a positive relationship is essential, we maintain close links with Council where our advice and general representations are valued.
