OUR VISION FOR MORWELL |
|
Placed for Growth
Located on
the M1 Princes Freeway, less than two hours east of Melbourne, Morwell
is at the centre of the Latrobe Region, one of Australia’s key
industrial, electricity generation and commercial centres.
Morwell has a number of competitive
advantages that include its well developed infrastructure, broad range
of business activities and highly skilled workforce. It has a vast array
of social, sporting, cultural and educational facilities, which when
combined with an affordable and high quality lifestyle, make it not only
a great place for business, but a great place to live.
|
|
Industrial Development |
|
Morwell is the pre-eminent
industrial centre in the region, with significant industrial renewal,
new industrial parks and modernising of much of the light industrial
sectors. This has been linked with significant environmental renewal of
the surroundings, both old power industry sites and industrial estates,
with some redeveloped as parkland and commercial forests. |
|
The Transport Node |
|
Morwell is the transport
node for the region for rail freight, and road transport. There are
excellent transport links from the centre to other areas of the Latrobe
Region, and between Morwell and the rest of Australia. A fast rail
transit links Morwell with metropolitan Melbourne and East Gippsland. It
is also linked to a high grade airport with potential for flights to Sydney,
Canberra, Albury, Launceston and Melbourne. |
|
Quality of Life |
|
There has been considerable
urban renewal and regeneration of old housing areas as attractive and
affordable accommodation for those leaving the expensive Eastern
Melbourne corridor. Morwell is known as very liveable and affordable
district for families, providing high quality of life for its residents.
|
|
Tourism |
|
Morwell has worked to link
the Mid Valley Shopping Centre and the CBD. The PowerWorks tourism
centre has become the focus of the dynamic industrial tourism industry
linked to other leisure and learning facilities.
Morwell has worked with
surrounding centres to develop a very high tourist profile for the
region and has led with the development of tourism infrastructure,
particularly using its excellent industrial tourist facilities to bring
visitors into the region. Access into and out of the district are
visually attractive, ensuring that visitors feel welcome and are drawn
into the key centres. |
|
Culture and Leisure |
|
Morwell has become renowned as
a cultural and leisure centre, with an excellent tourist information
web site, historical and art centres, world recognised Rose Garden, and
sporting facilities. The football, soccer and leisure centres are of
international standard and draw national and international sporting
events to the region. The cultural diversity of the Morwell district is
a feature and is typified by the food and multicultural focus of the
recently completed Immigration Park listing the names of large numbers
of immigrants who have settled in Gippsland. |
|
Education and Learning |
|
The district has excellent
educational facilities and has become a nationally recognised centre of
learning based on Monash University, Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE
and many other learning providers. This has drawn other businesses into
the district and has become a significant export industry, building on
the established links with our Asian neighbours. |
|
Knowledge and Technology |
|
Morwell has also become the
focus of a range of technology, electronics and communication
industries. They have been drawn to the district by the significant
existing infrastructure and the new technology business development
centre integrated with the local learning and research centres. These
knowledge and technology based industries have forged extensive links
with our international neighbours, making this a high profile industrial
centre.
