1. BUSINESS
PROMOTION
Thanks to a grant from the Victorian
Government and the Latrobe City Council Advance Morwell has produced
"Shopping in and Around the Morwell CBD" All CBD businesses are listed
and have been given a copy of the booklet. We now have all details of this
booklet on our website allowing amendments and additions to be made. Businesses
wishing to make any alterations please contact Chairman John Guy at
guyjv@wideband.net.au
2. PROMOTE
MORWELL AS A ‘ROSE TOWN’
ðThe
project to provide all businesses with a free, attractive and professionally
designed rose stencil is complete'
ðAttractive concrete tubs containing hardy rose plants and annuals
have been provided to businesses
in George and
Tarwin Streets and in 2011 tubs will be placed in Commercial Road.
Business owners are asked to play a part in
watering
the plants
3. BANNERS
ON PROMINENT BUILDINGS
ðOver the past two
years we have arranged for design, production and erection of 3 banners
representing facets of
Morwell’s history, industrial development, and roses.
ðWe plan to erect
a further banner, this one celebrating Church Street’s international heritage
will be placed on the
wall of the
building facing the Post Office.
4. IMPROVING THE
OVERALL APPEARANCE OF THE CBD
We will continue
to purchase a variety of decorations appropriate for a range of events such as
Christmas. Our shop window painting will continue, and the bud lights on the
Tarwin Street tree will be operating.
5. ATTRACTIVE
ENTRANCES FOR MORWELL
ðBuilding
on the rose theme attractive professionally produced signs for the entrances to
Morwell have been
commissioned. We are now seeking approval for their placement and erection.
ðThe former dilapidated and badly
positioned Serving Morwell signs have been updated and replaced.
ðWe will paint the piers of the unsightly former
briquette railway bridge at the western entrance.
6.ADVANCE MORWELL
WEB SITE
A high quality web site
has been set up to promote Morwell. We invite you to visit it and suggest
further development of this resource.
7.TOURISM
Our World Recognised Rose Garden is attracting large
numbers of visitors. We urge individual businesses to join us as members of the
Latrobe Business Tourism Association.
8.PARKING ISSUES
& UPGRADE OF JANE STREET CAR PARK
We aim for a
shopper friendly CBD, and will push for upgrade of the Jane Street area. A
letter has been forwarded to Council stressing the unsatisfactory state of the
unofficial Jane Street parking area, and we understand Council will be taking
action to set up a permanent safe parking area.
9.
HELP FOR ORGANISATIONS WISHING TO
RUN EVENTS
Advance Morwell
will no longer organise multi-faceted events such as the annual Celebration of
Roses, but will support other organisations

10. DREDGER 21

vital link with Morwell’s history, now needs major repair. We are supporting
moves to have it restored.
